2010: One Little Word

See original post about this idea {here}

My word for the year is: SUCCESS

When thinking about 'my word', I needed something that would keep me reliable. Focused. In Line. I would have loved to pick something fun, like 'create' or 'capture,' but those are things I already do. I need to focus on an area that needs work, that'll push me, that'll get me somewhere - to the place I envision myself to be.

SUCCESS.

Sure, I already am successful. I work (sub) with the school district I've always wanted to, I run a pretty successful photography business. Truly, I can say that I am quite successful at my young age of 23. But I want more.

I am not 100% "successful" in all the ways I WANT to be and NEED to be to reach all the goals I have for myself: buy a house in 2010, have a healthy bank account, work to pay off as much of my student loans as possible.

SUCCESS, SUCCESS, SUCCESS. This word fits so many areas of my life right now...which, of course, is why it's so fitting for 2010. Here are some of those areas that I will work to achieve more success:

1. TEACHING - I'm a recent college grad without a full-time job. I graduated 7 months ago and have been busting my butt to earn a full time teaching position with my dream district. So far, I student taught for 5 months here, I've subbed for the summer school program, I've worked in 3 different after-school programs with the district, I've held a 3-month long term substitute position in first grade, and now I will start day-to-day subbing for the remainder of the year as well as keep working with my current after school program. How will I truly feel successful here? By August of 2010, I want to have earned a full-time teaching position in this district. THAT would be SUCCESS - truly 100% in my book.

2. PHOTOGRAPHY - How would I define success in this area? Let's keep this one short and simple - books as many sessions/other type of photography work to make as much income as possible. This goes along with the above statement: buy a house in 2010, have a healthy bank account, work to pay off as much of my student loans as possible. Short and sweet.

3. HEALTH - Starting this week, I am getting a membership at the YMCA. Let's keep this short and simple again - success would be losing weight and just getting healthier. I don't have a set amount of weight I want to lose. Anything I can lose and keep off is good enough for me. :-)

4. MARRIAGE - I'm a newlywed. We've been married 163 day to be exact. I'm not going to lie. The transition hasn't been super easy. We've fought, we've bickered. The roles marriage automatically puts on people (with out us really realizing it) is taking a bit to adjust to! However, I got married to love, to be a best friend to someone, and to grow together. How would success in this area be defined? I think the answer to this is to just keep working together, pushing for the same goals, and (to be honest!) .... learn not to yell at him so much! :-)

As you can see, my main goal for success this year lies within my work. I hope to report back at the end of 2010 with these goals achieved!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Got married, graduated college, first real teaching job, booked myself solid for weddings for the next year

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't really make them. It's usually too much pressure to keep up with them, and then I don't succeed. So, for 2010, I'm not making any resolutions. However, I will be making a goal to start exercising regularly again and becoming more disciplined with what I eat.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nobody close to me. But, I can't wait to answer this one next year! I know lots of people who are expecting!

Opened my eyes and you made me believe."

More working out. Less stressing out.

43. Any trips planned?
I'm hoping we can do something fun for our 1 year anniversary. Also, I hope I don't have to pay as much into taxes as I am planning ... would love to go on a cruise with my husband instead of giving it to Obama's crazy ass followers.

Not this year, for me anyway. I'll be photographing lots of people's weddings, though.

*Snowman Soup*

My little project this morning for my 1st graders for their little Christmas gifts...Snowman Soup! It was a little putzy to design the tags, cut them out, bag up the marshmallows, assemble the baggies and tie with a ribbon, but it sure was fun! I hope they like!

Best part ... for 24 of them ... it only cost me $7!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
12 days til Christmas!

Snow Day

Hello, inches of snow!
Fortunately, for me, that equals one snow day off from school and a 2 hour delay the next day!

:-)

Happy Snow!
